Malta Gaming Authority Tightens Licensing Requirements for Online Operators

The Malta Gaming Authority has published revised licensing requirements that raise the bar for online casino and sportsbook operators wishing to operate under the MGA framework. The changes, which take effect later this year, cover several key areas including financial requirements, technical standards, and player protection obligations.

One of the most significant changes relates to minimum capital requirements. The MGA has increased the financial thresholds that applicants must demonstrate to prove they have sufficient resources to meet player liabilities and operate sustainably. This is intended to reduce the risk of operator insolvencies that could leave players unable to withdraw winnings.
